International audienceThis text examines Robert Mapplethorpe's work at a time when he knew he was condemned by illness, his famous photographic self-portraits in which he appears weakened and emaciated by AIDS. Through a comparative study of the initially opposing attitudes of Mapplethorpe and Hervé Guibert towards the representation of their physical decadence, these last images are discussed and placed in the context of the American photographer's career.Ce texte étudie la production Robert Mapplethorpe alors qu'il se sait condamné, ses célèbres autoportraits photographiques où il apparaît affaibli et très amaigri par le SIDA.
