International audienceChildren are actors who are largely associated or even assigned to local and everyday spaces. However, they have representations of small-scale spaces such as the global space, as shown by the PhD research I carried out with 248 children in 4 Parisian schools. The analyses reveal a paradox. The school institution has a significant influence on children’s representations of the world, while the school’s treatment of the World as a territory remains relatively basic and evolves little. This contrasts with the plurality and complexity of the children’s own representations, which re-politicise global issues that are otherwise largely “deconflicted” by the educational institution and teaching practices.
