Reviving the Aromanian Dialect Spoken in Korce Area, Albania

The present article aims to bring to academics’ attention the less known tradition of teaching and learning the Aromanian dialect in the schools of Albania throughout history, as well as the more recent reviving programs which have benefitted from increasingly innovative trends in teaching this endangered dialect. Its revitalisation is a must particularly in the context of granting the linguistic rights to the Aromanian minority living in Albania, stipulated by Law 96/2017 for Minorities. Based on the author’s own pedagogical experience and her participation to such reviving programs, in the second part, the article will present several innovative trends that have emerged during the process Community-based language learning, which has involved the incorporation of the local community and culture into the learning process. Language learners have interacted with native speakers, have participated in community events, and have used the language in real-life settings, fostering authentic language use and cultural understanding.
