To end the pandemic caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), many countries have implemented large scale vaccinations for their nationals since late 2020. Most of the vaccines have been allocated to wealthy countries while few have been sent to countries with lower average income. Unequal distribution of vaccines not only deepens the gap between the rich and poor but also elongates the pandemic, as evidenced by emergent pathogenic variants of the virus.
