GRATITUDE AND LIFE SATISFACTION AMONG INDIAN ADULTS: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF AFFECT

The study examined the relationship between gratitude and life satisfaction in educated adults in a non-Western context and the mediation of positive and negative affect. The sample comprised 711 males and females. They completed the Gratitude Questionnaire-6, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule. Structural Equational Modelling (SEM) analysis was used for testing the mediation hypothesis and multi-group analysis for testing gender differences. SEM showed a good fit for the hypothesised model of the study. Both positive and negative affect significantly mediated the relationship between gratitude and life satisfaction. There were no significant gender differences in gratitude and life satisfaction, but females significantly scored higher on negative affect, and males scored higher on positive affect, however, the multi-group confirmatory factor analysis failed to show significant gender differences
