THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE APPLICATION OF MANUAL THERAPY IN PATIENTS WITH GONARTHROSIS

Osteoarthritis is a disease of the synovial joint characterized by cartilage loss, remodeling of the adjacent bone, and concomitant low-grade local inflammation. The modern therapeutic approach combines electrotherapy and manual therapy.The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the application of manual therapy in patients diagnosed with gonarthrosis.This systematic review was conducted in accordance with the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. Databases used to search for scientific material are PubMed, Physiotherapy Evidence Database. The specified databases were searched during the period from February 2022 by May 2022 for English and non-English randomized controlled trials published between 2000 and 2020. Thekeywords used were “OA knee”, “gonarthrosis, “mobilization”, “ROM” and “WOMAC”. Eligibility criteria included randomized trials and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving patients aged 40–75 years with clinically diagnosed gonarthrosis. Applying a keyword search yielded 84 potentially eligible studies. According to the study inclusion and exclusion criteria n=84 were found in PubMed, n= 60 in PED ro (n=24). Duplicate studies (n=20)were excluded. Titles and abstracts n= 64 were reviewed.These results demonstrate therapeutic exercise as a validated part of the co-conservative therapeutic regimen. Researched scientific reports indicate that manual therapy is significantly more effective in terms of functional status in the short term and partly in the long term. The results of the review show that, in the short term, manual therapy has a positive effect on the functional status of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee joint
