Haitianos solicitantes de asilo a Estados Unidos en tránsito por Matamoros

During the last five years, Haitian migrants have arrived in some cities on the northern border of Mexico with the purpose of requesting asylum in the United States. The objective of this article is to analyze the transit of Haitian migrants through Matamoros: a border city in Tamaulipas, northeast of Mexico. Based on a hemerographic review and the application of questionnaires in two shelters in the city, it is identified that although the mobility of Haitians is part of economic and political crisis, their displacement through Matamoros was due to the short geographical distance from the United States and the supposed ease of obtaining asylum, was characterized by institutional challenges during the journey and migratory dilemmas experienced during the transit by people traveling alone or with their families.Durante el último lustro, migrantes haitianos han arribado a algunas ciudades de la frontera norte de México con el propósito de solicitar asilo en Estados Unidos. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar el tránsito de migrantes haitianos por Matamoros: una ciudad fronteriza de Tamaulipas, al noreste de México. Con base en una revisión hemerográfica y en la aplicación de cuestionarios en dos albergues de la ciudad, se identifica que si bien la movilidad de haitianos se inscribe en crisis económicas y políticas, su desplazamiento por Matamoros se debió a la corta distancia geográfica con Estados Unidos y la supuesta facilidad para conseguir asilo, se caracterizó por desafíos institucionales en el trayecto y dilemas migratorios vividos durante el tránsito por personas que viajaban solas o con su familia
