The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence: Evaluating the Moral Responsibility of AI Systems

Abstract: The development of artificial intelligence (AI) systems has sparked a growing concern regarding their ethical implications. As AI systems become more intelligent, the question of their moral responsibility arises. This paper aims to evaluate the moral responsibility of AI systems and explore the ethical considerations that arise from their deployment. By examining current debates and philosophical theories, we argue that AI systems should be held morally responsible to some extent, but the extent of their responsibility should be limited due to lacking consciousness and subjective experiences. We propose guidelines for designing ethical AI systems and discuss the key challenges in implementing moral responsibility within AI systems.
