Pratiques d’une enseignante et activités d’apprentissage d’un élève en grande difficulté : une analyse des influences réciproques en didactique des mathématiques

This research work aims to show the practices of a teacher and the learning achievements of a student with great learning disabilities. The type of teaching in which we are interested here is that of a one to one based teacher/student context. The body of this research work includes a series of videos that show the teaching method and learning abilities of numbers and calculations during a period of three years. This work also includes the teaching diary of the teacher as well as different interviews that aim to know her goals, the difficulties and success that she encountered and her own interpretations of the resistance and progress of her student. The theoretical framework of this study is rooted in various psychology and didactics of mathematics theories. The analysis of the learning abilities of the student was done on the basis of numerous research works in psychology that focus on the construction of numbers. Different theories such as Vergnaud's Theory of Conceptual Fields or Vygotski's concept of Proximal Zone of Development will be also highlighted in this work. The practices of the teacher will be analyzed based on the didactic and ergonomic double approach of Robert & Rogalski, on Bruner's concept of Scaffolding, and more globally on Leontiev's Activity Theory redeveloped by Leplat, Robert and Rogalski. The results of this study show the link between the teaching method and the progress in learning made by the student, and reciprocally how his activity and progress influence the teacher's choices. The results of this study also show how the student's learning disorder, his fears, his relational needs but also his various interests, all have an impact on the way the teacher builds her teaching strategy and is permanently brought to revise it and perform various adjustments.Cette recherche vise à mettre au jour les pratiques d'une enseignante et les apprentissages mathématiques d'un élève en grande difficulté dans un contexte d'enseignement individuel. Le corpus constitué pour cette étude comprend un ensemble de vidéos de séances d'enseignement-apprentissage du nombre et du calcul s'étalant sur une période de trois ans. Il comprend également le cahier de bord tenu par l'enseignante ainsi que plusieurs entretiens avec elle portant sur ses objectifs, ses difficultés et réussites ainsi que ses interprétations des résistances et des progrès de son élève. L'étude réalisée est fondée par des théories produites en didactique des mathématiques et en psychologie. L'analyse des apprentissages de l'élève s'appuie sur les nombreuses recherches menées en psychologie sur la construction du nombre ainsi que sur la théorie des champs conceptuels de Vergnaud et le concept de Zone Proximale de Développement de Vygotski (1933,1997). Les pratiques de l'enseignante sont étudiées en référence à la double approche didactique et ergonomique développée par Robert & Rogalski, aux travaux de Bruner sur le processus d'étayage et, d'un point de vue plus global, sur la théorie de l'activité de Leontiev reprise par Leplat et Robert & Rogalski. Les résultats obtenus mettent au jour les influences de l'enseignement dispensé sur l'apprentissage réalisé et, réciproquement, des activités de l'élève sur les choix de l'enseignante. Les progrès lentement et difficilement accomplis par l'élève sont en effet mis en rapport avec ses activités pour réaliser les tâches mathématiques conçues par l'enseignante. Les résultats révèlent également que les troubles dont l'élève est porteur, les intérêts ou les appréhensions dont il témoigne et les besoins relationnels qu'il exprime, concourent à conditionner fortement les situations proposées par l'enseignante, contrainte à des révisions et ajustements permanents de son enseignement
