In its strategic environment description the NATO 2022 Security Concept defined the security threats directly targeting Europe, especially the eastern wing of the Alliance. Russia’s build-up of its military presence in the Baltic, the Black Sea, and the Mediterranean region, and its military integration with Belarus challenged the Alliance’s security.
