In order to contribute to the ongoing efforts against climate change, the European Commission has published a document called Flightpath 2050, which sets out objectives and targets for the aviation sector to reduce the environmental impact of aircraft and their associated and necessary infrastructure. These targets are aimed at reducing water vapour and contrails, ozone and soot, NOx and CO2 as well as noise. In this context, alternative propulsion systems for commercial aircraft are being considered.
