Atomic force microscopy force-curve experiments are conducted on methoxy-terminated tri(ethylene glycol) system, adsorbed as SAMs on evaporated gold and silver. These measurements are made using a silicon nitride tip that has been gold coated and functionalized by hexadecane thiol. The medium chosen of the force-curve measurements is the same as that used for the fibrinogen adsorption studies, namely phosphate-buffered saline. Initial results show a strong correlation between protein resistance and repulsive interaction between the (hydrophobic) tip and the surface.</p
