Intramolecular interaction networks in proteins are responsible for heterotropic ligand binding cooperativity, a biologically important, widespread phenomenon in nature ( e. g., signaling transduction cascades, enzymatic cofactors, enzymatic allosteric activators or inhibitors, gene transcription, or repression).
