Two questions are discussed. Firstly, what is the connection between the group and the semigroup defined by the same presentation? Secondly, do there exist any results for semigroups with respect to substructures being finitely presented that correspond to the classical results for groups? These themes are considered both from a geometric and a combinatorial point of view.</p
