The Venerable Bede was first and foremost a biblical scholar whose primary task was to bring clarity to the sacred text. In the world of biblical learning, all scriptural books pose a number of textual and interpretative difficulties which require explication or contextualisation by an exegete. This article focuses on the text-critical methodologies and interpretative strategies deployed by Bede in his commentary On Genesis. In this work, Bede addresses obscure statements, technical terminology, biblical stylistics, and Hebrew etymology, alongside a host of other textual issues. Overall, this article provides insight into how Bede approached the Bible and its myriad textual problems in his scholarship
