A defining characteristic of cancer is loss of control of accurate chromosome segregation resulting in aneuploidy, genetic instability and tumour progression, ultimately leading to invasive and metastatic phenotypes. A quantitative description of the underlying biological processes would be a valuable tool for developing chemotherapy that is selective against cells in which chromosome segregation is defective or damaged.
