TERRORISM IN AFRICA AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF SECURITY MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA AND KENYA

This study intends to examine different indicators of terrorist operations related to socio-economic development, reflecting the similarities and differences of their operations in the African continent to provide a constructive management strategy for curbing perennial terrorist attacks in Africa. The research was anchored on the contagious theory of terrorism, which adopted the influence of the unrestricted flow of information and ideas in explaining the spread of ‘domestic’ terrorism into a transnational network. The relevant data for this study were elicited through primary and secondary sources. The research reveals that it is the same terrorist groups such as al-Shabaab and Boko Haram that are aligning with each other and other foreign terrorist organizations like the al-Qaeda senior leaders in Pakistan that are wreaking havoc in society. Secondly, it reveals that the intended African Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 is unrealizable in the face of unaddressed terrorist operations. Subsequently, it recommends collaborative action among the internal and external actors on counter-terrorism action for effective management
