The Aztec civilization flourished in Mexico during the 14th, 15th and early 16th centuries. Aztec society was composed of 20 clans, and land was owned by the clan rather than by individuals. Clan representatives formed the tribal council that selected two men as rulers for the whole tribe. The Spanish, who lacked honor in fighting, proved to be the Aztecs' undoing
