Absorption with water is at present the most viable technology for CO2 capture. While this is a proven technology, efforts are ongoing to improve it in order to make it more attractive technology for large scale use to reduce CO2 emissions. In this paper an experimental method is used to improve the understanding of the chemistry of CO2 in water systems. The work is also intended to provide the models that can be used to predict the performance of new solvents. Several technologies have been developed for capturing carbon dioxide but absorption remains the most suitable method for large scale industrial operations.
