La légitimité externe du dirigeant et performance des entreprises : Cas du Cameroun

Legitimacy defined in terms of the purpose of an action, refers to the external logic of the legitimacy of the manager in the sense of Schuman (1995) and cited by Stamford (2002) continues to be a concern for our study. However, it does not have an interdependent relationship with business performance. Thus, for supporters of shareholder theory, wealth is created only for shareholders. So the objective of this study is to establish the link that could exist between the satisfaction of external stakeholders and the performance of medium-sized enterprises in Cameroon. The data comes from 120 private companies in Cameroon belonging to different sectors of activity. Thus, the first hypothesis is confirmed, the second hypothesis is invalidated which implies that customer satisfaction has a positive influence on business performance. On the other hand, the satisfaction of financial institutions negatively impacts the performance of these companies, which goes against the patrimonial model which favors the satisfaction of shareholders’ interests as well as those of other stakeholders of the company.   Keywords: external legitimacy, manager, external stakeholder, satisfaction, performance JEL Classification : M41 Paper type : Empirical researchLa légitimité, définie en termes de finalité d’une action, renvoie à la logique externe de la légitimé du dirigeant au sens de Schuman (1995) et cité par Stamford (2002) continue une préoccupation pour notre étude. Cependant, elle ne connait pas une relation d’interdépendance avec la performance des entreprises. Ainsi, pour les partisans de la théorie actionnariale, la richesse est créée uniquement pour les actionnaires. Ainsi l’objectif de cette étude est d’établir le lien qui pourrait exister entre la satisfaction des parties prenantes externes et la performance des moyennes entreprises du Cameroun.  Les données sont issues de 120 entreprises privées du Cameroun appartenant à différents secteurs d’activité. Ainsi la première hypothèse est confirmée, la seconde hypothèse n’est qu’en elle infirmée, ce qui implique que la satisfaction des clients à une influence positive sur la performance des entreprises. Par contre, la satisfaction des institutions financières impacte négativement la performance de ces entreprises, ce qui va à l’encontre du modèle patrimonial qui privilégie la satisfaction des intérêts des actionnaires ainsi que ceux des autres parties prenantes de l’entreprise.   Mots clés : légitimité externe, dirigeant, partie prenante externe, satisfaction, performance Classification JEL :M41 Type d’article : Recherche empiriqu
