The mandatory use of at least 30% of federal resources from the National School Feeding Program (PNAE) to purchase food from family farming was one of the achievements by law from 2009, but this percentage still it is not the reality of many Brazilian municipalities, especially in the North Region. This study aims to describe the experience of applying an active methodology for surveying the main challenges and possibilities for the insertion of family farming products in school meals in municipalities of the Marajó Archipelago in Pará, from the perspective of the social actors involved in the PNAE .
