In November 1979, Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko made an official three-day visit to Spain. His presence carried great symbolic value as he was a representative of the highest level of the USSR, a country with which diplomatic relations had not existed for decades. This article analyzes the development of the meeting and its influence on the Spanish foreign policy of the Transition. For this, we have worked with some media in Spain (ABC, El PAÍS), abroad (New York Times, Le Monde), and the collections of the Marcelino Oreja Archive (Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences).
