Dünya genelinde önemli bir besin ve vitamin kaynağı olan fasulye (Phaseolus vulgaris L) bitkisi, farklı kültürlerde farklı yemek formları olarak tercih edilmektedir. Fasulyede bakteriyel adi yaprak yanıklığı hastalığına neden olan Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli, fasulye üretiminde önemli kayıplara sebep olarak ekonomiyi ve insan beslenmesini tehdit etmektedir.
