Bacillus licheniformis and Bacillus paralicheniformis are Gram positive, endospore forming bacteria, present in a wide variety of environments. Until 2015, when B. paralicheniformis was identified from fermented soybeans, it was impossible to distinguish it from B. licheniformis.
