The broad aim of this article is to examine the pattern and determinants of energy consumption in Scotland. More specifically, two aspects of the fuel sector are considered: first, the general trends in the sector since the early sixties and the impact of the change in the price of oil; second, the question of which factors determine the demand for energy in the Scottish economy.
