It is inefficient to provide speech and language therapy to young children whose problems are likely to resolve (Dale et al, 2003). Identifying reliable predictive measures in the early years to distinguish children whose language will resolve from those who will persist with language impairment will prove valuable to clinicians, allowing for earlier intervention and preventative measures to be put in place.
