The present thesis describes several applications of Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry to the study of gas phase ion/molecule readions. The theoretical and experimental methods used during this work are first described. The second part puts together the results concerning the formulation and the application of a new method of determination of gas phase basicities. this so called "thermokinetic" method. is based upon the correlation observed between the rate and the thermochemistry of proton transfer reactions. It allows the determination of gas phase basicities and proton affinities with an accuracy of a few kJ.mol-1.
