International audienceUnder triaxial conditions, deformation bands are often observed in porous carbonate rocks. In the Saint Maximim Limestone, an earlier study on 40mm diameter samples showed that their nucleation and propagation is controlled by the heterogeneity of porosity at that mesoscale. A triaxial device compatible with in situ X-ray tomography imaging allows us to observe the localization phenomenon more continuously and at a smaller scale (15 mm diameter samples). We describe the experimental method to understand the behavior of a rock with complex microstructure.
