The aim of the research was to estimate the changes in profitability of production of pigs for slaughter. The analysis included data from GUS (Central Statistical Office) and IERiGŻ (Institute of Agricultural Economics and Food Economy), as well as information from farms in Wielkopolska province that produced hundred or more porkers yearly and conducted accountancy within the Polish FADN system in the 2004. The profitability of production of pigs for slaughter is influenced primarily by the purchase prices of pigs and fodder costs. Polish accession to the EU has not stopped changes in the conditions in the market of pork meat.
