The aim of this article a comparative analysis of the economics of fishing fleets registered in the EU member states and operating in the Baltic Sea region. It was found that among the old EU countries, almost all segments of the fishing fleet were profitable, except for the German fishing boats. The best was the Swedish fleet, whose all segments were classified as profitable. In the case of the new EU countries the Polish fleet fared best. In terms of the size of profits was the German fleet (a total annual profit of 27.3 million euro in years 2005-2007), focused mainly on fishing cod, unbeatable. The worst results out of all national fleets had the Estonian fleet which had generated an annual loss of 10.4 million euro in years 2005-2007. ...
