This survey was produced as part of the Andrew W. Mellon-funded AudiAnnotate Audiovisual Extensible Workflow (AWE)1 project in order to better understand how and why students, teachers, information professionals, and others annotate audiovisual content. It is clear from the participant responses that there is an active community annotating audiovisual content for a variety of reasons, using a variety of tools. The survey confirms and further informs the project team’s understanding of the current audiovisual annotation landscape and supports the grant’s premise that there is a broad need for a workflow that supports collaborative editing, flexible modes of presentation, and permissions control.
