The duty to promote British Values is now a part of the Ofsted Common Inspection framework for schools and colleges in England, as well as independent schools, free schools and academies. The session will look at the recent history behind the emergence of the Prevent Duty and the choice of key values as ‘British’. It will look at possible teacher responses to pupils with extremist and controversial views and some of the issues that have made Prevent both controversial and problematic
