The original Restatement of the law, torts was published by The American Law Institute between 1934 and 1939 and has been widely relied upon by courts. Volumes I and II, containing §§ 1-280 and 281-503, respectively, were published in 1934. Volume III, containing §§ 504-756, was published in 1938. Volume IV, containing §§ 757-951, was published in 1939. The original Restatement was superseded by the Restatement of the law second, torts 2d, published between 1965 and 1979. Portions of the second restatement have since been superseded by the Restatement third of torts
