"At present Yunnan Province in China tries to adapt itself to the new conditions created by the regional re-organization after the end of cold war. Coupled with an emergence of domestic tourists supported by the rapid economic growth particularly along the south eastern coast, the Province began to enjoy rising income by supplying service to visiting tourists. At the same time the Province tries to make use of its geographical location as a gate to South East Asia and also to South Asia. The potentialities are not exploited enough and various projects are under way to link Yunnan to Myammar, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam by road, trade, ship transportation through Mekong river.
