Click on the DOI link below to access the article (may not be free).The purpose of this study was to isolate and quantify the age-related treatment intensity differential in elderly clients (n = 278) with functional disability in one managed care setting. For those who died during the study, treatment intensity changes for the last year and month of life were examined. The subjects were categorized into four age groups: 75-79 years; 80-84 years; 85-89 years and 90 + years, and a treatment intensity index was calculated for each group using a ratio of actual to expected costs.
