Thesis (Ed.D.)--Wichita State University, College of Education, Dept. of Educational LeadershipThis research studied the affect of school consolidation on a sending community – a community that lost their high school – from a social constructionist perspective using the theory of social capital as the framework to explain conclusions. The researcher conducted the study using qualitative case study methods grounded in a naturalistic inquiry approach. Using Putnam‟s (1995, 2000) theory of social capital, it was concluded the sending community tightly bonded when they felt threatened by outsiders‟ attempts at further consolidation.
