In dieser Arbeit wurde ein neuartiges holistisches mathematisches Modell entwickelt, das die wichtigsten hydrodynamischen, reaktionsbedingten und nichtlinearen elektrischen Prozesse von mikrobiellen Brennstoffzellen (MBZs) mit Luftkathoden zur Abwasserbehandlung beschreibt. Das vorgeschlagene Mehrpopulationsmodell verknüpft bestehende MBZ-Modelle mit dem etablierten Activated Sludge Model No.1 (ASM1) und spezifischen Gleichungen aus dem ASM2. Ferner wurde das Modell durch Diffusionsmodelle erweitert, um die Nitrifikation und die Ammoniakstrippung zu berücksichtigen.
