International audienceThis paper addresses the question of the homogenization of fracture properties for three-dimensional disordered brittle solids. The effective fracture energy, identified as the elastic energy release rate required to ensure crack growth, is controlled by both the mechanisms of interaction between a crack and heterogeneities, and the material disorder that emerges from the random positioning of the inclusions and the variations of their mechanical properties. The combined influence of the interaction mechanisms and the material disorder on material reinforcement is predicted from a semi-analytical framework inspired by both micromechanics and statistical physics.
