BACKGROUND: Anhedonia, or loss of interest and pleasure, is a pernicious symptom of depression that involves deficits in reward processing. Stress-induced inflammation is a plausible biopsychosocial mechanism of reward deficits, but little is known whether stress-induced inflammation alters reward behavior.
