Racial disparities in housing-related outcomes that correspond to economic security are partly caused by cumulating disparities in job stability during working years. There is no evidence that these outcomes change after households become eligible for OASI benefits.Housing wealth comprises 40 percent of the net wealth of retirement-age Americans, 43 percent of whom have not yet paid of their mortgages.
