A pyrolysis process of waste water activated sludge in a hydrothermal medium has been developed between 200 and 300°C. It allows to convert 72 % of the original organic matter into oil and gas, nearly the whole proteins and lipids content of the sludge. Pyrolytic oil is similar to fossil oil and contains mainly neutral molecules (alkanes, alkenes, aromatic...). Its sulphur content decreases with the residence time and the temperature. The heavy metals contents in oil and gas are negligible.
