The objective of this PhD is to understand the behavior of low-alloyed steels under half-cutting forming and heat treatment processes for use in automotive seat mechanisms. The ferrite-cementite globules structure initially present in the steels allows complex forming but is not relevant for high stresses noticed in seat mechanism parts. The carbonitriding heat treatment makes it possible with a martensitic structure that allows this mechanical strength for current use. However, for the steel usually used, C18E, a mixed ferrite, bainite and martensite microstructure is observed after heat treatment.
