To examine levels of functional fitness of elderly people living at home, a cross-sectional survey was conducted targeting 385 persons, who were 65 years old and over. The functional fitness for daily life was measured by the following 4 tests: standing test, walking test, hand performance test and self-care performance test. Results of standing and walking tests showed that males stand up and walk significantly faster than females. With advancing age their performance for all 4 tests got slower, and there was statistically significant difference between the young-old age group and the old-old age group. The results suggest that the aging strongly affects levels of functional fitness of elderly people living at home
