Criminal Involvement and Academic Performance Abstract The relationship between criminal involvement and academic performance has been a topic of interest for researchers and educators, seeking to understand the factors influencing students\u27 educational outcomes and potential engagement in illegal activities. This study explores the association between criminal involvement and academic performance across diverse genders, and age groups. We hypothesize that academic performance is negatively correlated with criminal involvement, that criminal involvement is negatively correlated with academic performance, and that having poor academic performance in middle school through college positively correlates with delinquency. Using a mixed methods approach, data is being collected from a sample of students aged 18 and up from psychology classes at Murray State University. The study employs a self-report questionnaire to gather comprehensive information on participants\u27 educational achievements and criminal involvement. This study will contribute to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the association between criminal involvement and academic performance, while also offering insights into the underlying factors that contribute to this relationship. Data is still being collected, as the study is ongoing. Current data shows that 25.93% of participants are male, 72.22% are female, and 1.85% identify as other. Similarly, 83.33% of respondents have completed secondary education and 16.67% have completed university education.
