Deconsolidation occurs in athermoplastic composite when it is heatedabove a certain temperature. If a lowmechanical constraint is applied during thisheating, pores may appear in various forms(bubbles, cracks, delamination, etc.) which willseverely degrade the mechanical strength of theparts. This problem is particularly important incontinuous processes such as in situconsolidation, or welding, since the parts beingjoined are heated, at least locally, above theirmelting temperature. Therefore, it is sometimesnecessary to apply a counter pressure, ofunknown value, throughout the welding process.This complicates significantly the implementationof these technologies.
