This thesis is carried out as part of the SOFTLITE joint laboratory, a collaboration between the Institut de Physique de Nice (INPHYNI) and the company Fastlite. The aim of this project is the development of innovative devices based on thick layer nematic liquid crystals (LCs) adapted for spatial and/or spectro-temporal manipulation of femtosecond pulses. In this context, the main objective of the thesis is to deepen a new type of control of liquid crystal birefringence, which has led to the design of a new type of spatial light modulator (SLM): the Thermo-Optical Addressable SLM (TOA-SLM) patented in 2019.
