The Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) is a gamma herpesvirus which is associated with different diseases including multiple sclerosis, infectious mononucleosis, and several types of cancer such as Burkitt and Hodgkin lymphoma, nasopharyngeal, lymphoepithelium-like or gastric carcinoma. EBV infection can be latent or replicative, corresponding to different expression patterns of viral genes. EBV infection can be detected utilizing antibodies used in the different EBV-associated illnesses. EBV infection has been associated with malignancies such as Burkitt and Hodgkin lymphoma, nasopharyngeal, lymphoepithelium-like, or gastric carcinoma.
