Pollinators play an important role in food production. It has been estimated that approximately 75% of crop plants rely on animal pollination. However, the situation regarding pollinating insects is alarming and their decline is causing global concern. Pesticides represent one of the main reasons for pollinator decline. To protect pollinators from pesticides, extensive legislation is implemented across the European Union (EU). The first aim of my thesis was to study pesticide residue levels in honeybee- collected pollen in boreal landscapes (Paper I).
