INTRODUCCIÓN: Conocer la etiología microbiana de la infección periprotésica articular (IPA) y la presencia de factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de infecciones por microorganismos multirresistentes (MM) es esencial tanto para guiar el tratamiento antibiótico empírico como para elegir la profilaxis antimicrobiana quirúrgica adecuada en las intervenciones de prótesis articulares para prevenir la infección.
