Homogenized models are often used in multiscale analysis of composite materials because of their computational efficiency. However they frequently fail to provide sufficient accuracy in regions with considerable gradients in solution fields. One approach to overcome this issue is to adaptively couple the homogeneous model with a full field, heterogeneous model in selected zones of interest which need to be determined somehow.
